Opinion: Yes, Rep. Gohmert, Al Qaeda is now called Al Pastor

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) warned Wednesday that “radical Islamists” are being “trained to act like Hispanic[s]” and cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to Gohmert, who warned us of the danger of “Terror Babies,” and has more crazy theories than a UFO convention, like “Arabs are now being trained to come in and act like Hispanics when they are radical Islamists.” Gohmert claims Muslims are being trained to assimilate to Hispanic ways.

We have been found out.

For years, Muslim terrorists have been posing as Latinos. (Cue belly dancing mariachi music played by the Gipsy Kings.)

We have been preparing to take over for a long time. Super sleuth Gohmert missed many other clues, including:

-Al Qaeda is now to be referred to as Al Pastor

-We don’t watch Bin Laden videos, we watch telenovelas

-We wear colorful ponchos as burqas

I’m surprised that Gohmert has not urged Americans to stop…

The number of new Latino entrepreneurs has also nearly doubled, from 10.5 percent to 19.5 percent since 1996. Here is just a sampling of some immigrant pioneers in various fields:

1. In 2012, Sofia Vergara became the highest-paid female actress on television at $19 million. But few may know that besides being a two-time Emmy-nominated actress, the immigrant from Colombia is also a very successful entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of a 16-year-old talent management company, Latin We, which made an estimated $27 million two years ago. She has a clothes line with Kmart, and just last month, she also launched The Nuevo World social network, which connects Spanish-speaking celebrities with their fans on social media. So far…

Books Around The Table

As I have been working on the illustrations for BOOM BOOM, I have been thinking about humor in children’s book illustrations – what amused me when I was a child and what I find funny now. I’m sure there is a common thread from one to the other, but I’m not going to delve too deeply. As E. B. White said, “Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.”

Sometimes the images act as punch lines to the text, while in others the joke is delivered on a separate plate from the words. Many are visual puns. What I see as a constant is the amount of fun the illustrator appears to be having. In the best comedy for children, I believe joy, humor and art are a trio act, with joy having the leading role.
